Well, we had our first trip to the ER last Sunday night. We had been in Augusta for the weekend and right before we left, we noticed that Logan's thumb was extremely swollen and red. If you remember in a previous post, Logan had stopped sucking her thumb last Thursday and we equated that with teething. We are definitely sure she was teething because she now has a molar. However, we just aren't sure why her thumb was now infected and swollen. Sooooo, I called the after-hours nurse who recommended that we head to the er if we thought Lo's thumb was infected. After going back and forth as to what to do, we ultimately decided to go to the hospital. We ended up waiting fo-eva to see a dr when we finally saw one, he decided to drain the abscess. =( This was NOT fun. Jordan and I had to hold Logan down so the dr could puncture and drain her thumb. Logan was given antibiotics and five and a half hours later, we arrived back at home. Everyone was in bed by 3:00am.
The following day, I took Logan to the pedi so she could look at it. She was extremely concerned and checked Logan's white blood cell count. Thankfully, all was well. Our pedi decided that the antibiotic would more than likely clear it up and that she wanted us to soak Logan's thumb a few times a day. (yeah right) ...and she wanted to see us back in two days.
We went back to the pedi yesterday and she was not satisfied with the progress of Logan's thumb, so she referred us to a pediatric surgeon to possibly re-drain her thumb. Thankfully, the surgeon did not feel it was necessary to drain the thumb again and that it should resolve on its own.
Soooo, Logan's thumb is much better! The picture above is from yesterday. Her thumb was already a thousand times better. On Sunday, it was so swollen, she could not even bend it!
Also, in case you're wondering, that is the arm with the hemangioma on it. It is always red like that. =)
